Lane Kiffin responds to cryptic message from top transfer with equally cryptic post
Ole Miss has built quite the class out of the NCAA transfer portal, landing premium players at premium positions. One of those is EDGE Tyler Baron, who committed to the Rebels from Tennessee. Lane Kiffin has brought in multiple transfers from SEC opponents and Barron was thought to be one of the best ones.
However, a recent interaction between the two on X has people wondering what is going on. Barron posted a checkered flag emoji with no other context. Kiffin was quick to quote it, using a GIF of Brad Pitt looking defeated after taking a deep breath.
The deadline to enroll has not officially passed in Oxford, meaning Baron could still change his commitment. Another team could be fighting to sign the pass rusher. Maybe they have pulled off the flip behind the scenes and Kiffin is feeling a little down. We truly do not know.
You can check out the full message from Baron and Kiffin here.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Louisville could have something to do with the tweets from Baron and Kiffin. The Cardinals have been just as active in the portal as Ole Miss and are making a late run at Baron after he visited with former Tennessee teammates Tamarion McDonald and Wesley Walker last week.
Both McDonald and Walker are currently committed to Louisville and are recruiting Baron to join them.

However, if you look at the location of Baron’s original tweet, it does come from Oxford. Kiffin continued the Moneyball theme with another GIF but this one seemed a bit more celebratory.
At the very least, it’s just the latest edition of Twitter Science for us college football fans to decode. With the use of minimal words, GIFs, and emojis, there could be a ton of factors at play. Either way, Baron and Kiffin are having their normal fun on social media.
In four seasons with the Vols, Baron racked up 101 tackles, 27.0 tackles for a loss, 13.0 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and four pass breakups. He also scored a defensive touchdown in 2023.
Ole Miss still needs to get the Baron commitment over the finish line. If he does wind up playing for the Rebels, he will be part of what should be an impressive defense next year. Defensive coordinator Pete Golding has done a great job of acquiring talent for the 2024 season.
