Lane Kiffin knows Ole Miss’ upcoming opponent all too well. The student will host one of his teachers this weekend as Nick Saban and Alabama come to Oxford. While they may be wounded after losing two of their last three games, Kiffin is well aware of the firepower that one of his former programs will be putting on the field.

Kiffin shared his thoughts on the talented Tide during his press conference on Monday. He started that conversation with Alabama edge Will Anderson. Considering everything he brings to the defense, Kiffin realizes how unique of a prospect Anderson is in the sport.

“I think he’s just such a unique combination of speed and power,” said Kiffin. “He reduces down and plays on guards, which is very unusual. Then he speed rushes and he drops to. That doesn’t really seem to happen now as much…It’s just a really unique combination and he plays with relentless effort.”

Anderson is just the start, though. There’s a reason the Tide are always at the top of the game and it’s because Saban and his staff are consistently near the top of the recruiting rankings too. Pair that with the game plans they employ and Kiffin says it’s not hard to see why Alabama dominates the sport and the NFL Draft. If Ole Miss wants to be the third team to knock them off, he says it’s going to take a great performance from his team as well as some situations breaking the Rebel’s way.

“These guys have great players and great schemes. That’s not the typical rat poisoning. They do. When you look at the draft every year? And you’ll see it again this year,” Kiffin said. “You’ve got to do everything right in order to beat these guys. You’ve got to coach really well, play really well. Win situations, manage things, take risks. There’s a reason why they’re the best over time at what they do.”

While they’ve been defeated twice, Kiffin was more than realistic about Alabama’s record. They were a possession or two away from beating both Tennessee and LSU on the road rather than now being on the outside looking in for the CFP. With that in mind, he wants his team to take the right approach come Saturday afternoon. The Tide are more vulnerable than normal, but overlooking Saban’s squad can and will cost Ole Miss if they do.
