Lane Kiffin details what Jaxson Dart brings to the Ole Miss offense
Lane Kiffin has had a front-row seat for the early season developments from Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. The sophomore transfer from USC has steadily improved in Oxford and it’s now showing on the field for the Rebels. Through three games, Kiffin is more than satisfied with what he has seen from Dart when he’s gotten his chances.
Kiffin discussed Dart’s development during media after Ole Miss’ 42-0 win over Georgia Tech. He says he has seen Dart pick up his tempo during the week. That has led to improved play during his appearances in the games.

“I thought that in the second half (Dart) made some really timely throws that were over people with really good touch. He did that during the week,” said Kiffin. “He played faster in the week…where we just coach our way. You’ve got to drop, you got to play fast at quarterback much like the NFL. He’s not been trained that way at all. This is a learning process for him and he looks a lot different.”

Kiffin made sure to clarify that Dart’s learning curve at Ole Miss had nothing to do with a lack of coaching while with the Trojans. If anything, he was pointing out how different the Rebel’s offense can be whe. you compare it to other systems. Based on his 65.5% completion rate, three touchdowns, and improved yards in each outing, though, it appears Dart is getting the hang of things.
Dart has a long way to go as a young player working under the expectations of being a QB under Lane Kiffin. However, he’s starting the show the flashes of being the former four-star recruit he once was. He’s played well to start under difficult circumstances and just passed his first Power-5 opponent test of the season. That leaves Dart just one more tuneup to really find his footing in the Rebel offense before they dive into SEC play.
