Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin appeared on First Take to talk about different problems facing college football, as well as his own team. One of the things that the Rebels have to manage in 2022 is turnover from his excellent 2021 roster. Kiffin responded by bringing in 17 new transfers and explained his plan to integrate those players into the program.

“Well that’s not easy,” said Lane Kiffin. “Anytime you bring in that many players that replace really good players, but really good team leaders and locker room guys.”

“That’s a lot for us to do. I think that’s a lot on coaching because you didn’t have these guys in your system for a couple years, and they’ve come from different places where they’ve already kind of been raised differently. So this is very challenging. It may – on paper – look good that we signed all these guys that are supposed to be good players or have been at other players.”

“But as you guys see in all sports, look no different than the NBA,” Lane Kiffin explained. “You can put together good players on paper and it doesn’t work. Especially in football.”

Perhaps the most important transfer on Ole Miss’ roster is Jaxson Dart, a transfer quarterback from USC. Dart is competing with Luke Altmyer to replace Matt Corral, one of the program’s best quarterbacks ever.
