Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin caught the attention of Twitter when he tweeted an old photo of himself at Tennessee the week before the Volunteers were set to face Alabama. The photo in question was taken ahead of the infamous 2010 press conference where Kiffin announced he was leaving Knoxville for USC, and showed him leaning against a wall outside of the press room.

But as interesting as Kiffin’s tweet was at the time, the coach said in his Monday press conference that there wasn’t really a reason behind why he sent it, other than he thought it was funny.

“I guess in here the other day, I say I overthink things,” he said. “Sometimes, I underthink things. A lot of times people just send me something, and it was the week of that game and someone sent it as a joke to me. So I just tweeted it.”

Tennessee hit a last-second field goal to win 52-49 against Alabama and move up to No. 3 in the AP poll. Kiffin got a chance to catch some of that game after the Rebels’ 48-34 win against Auburn, saying that the reaction to the Volunteers’ win from fans has been fun to watch.

“I sent a tweet as they were lining up for the field goal,” he said. “The guy did jump through to block it, so it was kind of eerie. But I did (watch the game). The beginning I didn’t catch because we were finishing up here with recruiting and stuff, but exciting game. That’s football. That game goes either way. Just like we get in those games with Kentucky. So it’s just always kind of funny for me to see fans and everybody when the game can guy either way. One side misses a kick and the other side makes it and the whole world has changed.”

Lane Kiffin will not face Tennessee in the regular season this year, but the Rebels do have a matchup against Alabama later in the season on Nov. 12. So far Ole Miss is off to a 7-0 (3-0 SEC) start, and faces LSU at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday in Baton Rouge.
