Lane Kiffin explains the difficulty of going on the road and defeating Georgia

If beating Georgia wasn’t difficult enough, having to do so in Athens only makes it that much more difficult. Even so, that’s the test that Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss are going to try to pass this weekend inside Sanford Stadium.

Kiffin spoke about the Rebel’s upcoming Top-10 matchup against the Bulldogs during his press conference on Monday. While his team will be ready, he is also well aware that, based on the past few seasons of Kirby Smart’s tenure, history isn’t exactly on their side in this position.

“We have a gigantic challenge in front of us – going to play the No. 1 team in the country, playing them at their place, and at night,” said Kiffin. “I think the last time anyone has beat them there was five years ago before COVID.”

If that wasn’t hard enough, Kiffin doesn’t have anyone he can reference or ask for advice. That’s partially because it hasn’t happened often and partially because the last person to accomplish it, Will Muschamp at South Carolina, now finds himself on the ‘Dawg’s sideline.

“The last head coach that beat them there? I can’t really call and ask because he’s now on their staff,” Kiffin laughed. “There’s not a lot of answers about how to beat these guys at home. A lot of people have tried.”

Georgia’s current 26-game win streak spans over 700 days. Their 21-game win streak at home is even longer than that at nearly 1,500 days.

Now, on the road this weekend, Kiffin in the Rebels will try to reset those clocks with a massive win for their program, within the SEC, and on the national landscape.

ESPN College GameDay heading to Athens for Ole Miss vs. Georgia

Both Georgia and Ole Miss were able to pick up massive wins on Saturday at home, setting up for what should be an incredible matchup between the two. All SEC fans were going to tune in for the game in Athens.

Now, the national spotlight will be there as well. ESPN College GameDay announced it will be their Week 11 destination.

To this point, Kirby Smart and Lane Kiffin have not faced off against one another as head coaches.

Add in how their two teams are currently playing and a ton of intrigue is added to the game. Georgia is currently undefeated following back-to-back national championships while Ole Miss has just one loss on the season and is still technically alive in the SEC West race.

We should be in store for a great game on Saturday afternoon. You can check out the full announcement from ESPN College GameDay here.
