Lane Kiffin names who his guest picker would be on College GameDay
ESPN’s College GameDay is headed to Oxford this weekend for the Ole Miss–Texas A&M game, and Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin does not have to think twice about who he would like to be the guest picker.
“It’d be Katy Perry,” an expressionless Kiffin said on Monday. “That’s a no-brainer if you read my Twitter.”
Kiffin and Perry have traded multiple tweets in recent months, and the popstar has an open invite to “#ComeToTheSip” whenever she would like to. When College GameDay made their announcement about this upcoming Saturday, Kiffin tweeted at Perry within an hour.
But a prior friendship is not the only reason Kiffin would have Perry be on set to pick Saturday’s slate of games.
“I just like when things have worked before,” Kiffin added. “I think coaches come up with plays, and they want to run a play, it’s ‘Well can you show me it being run before.’ Well I’ve seen this script before and this movie when Katy Perry shows up and Ole Miss wins. I was on the other side of it. It worked before, let’s do it again.”
Perry was the guest picker for the 2014 Alabama-Ole Miss game, the only other time ESPN has visited Oxford for their Saturday morning pregame show.
Perry’s legendary appearance on College GameDay led to a 23-17 victory over Alabama. Kiffin was the Crimson Tide offensive coordinator at the time.
