As fall camps around the country begin to wrap up, coaches are getting a chance to catch their breath again briefly before the season begins. Lane Kiffin, Pete Golding and the rest of the Ole Miss staff did that in a unique way on Friday.

The staffers hosted what appeared to be an impromptu baseball game on the team’s practice fields.

In a video he posted to Twitter, Kiffin hit a towering home run off what appeared to be Golding, captioning his tweet “Welcome to [Ole Miss football], [Pete Golding].”

You can check out the big dinger below.

Kiffin also included an interesting hashtag on his tweet: #NotABamaStaffMeeting.

Without diving too deep into the potential meaning on the hashtag and whether it was shot across the bow of the SEC West rival, Golding arrives at Ole Miss this offseason after spending the last five years at Alabama as defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach.

Golding was under significant pressure at Alabama after the cause of two Crimson Tide losses in 2022 was the defense.

Alabama suffered a defeat after collapsing defensively late in the game against Tennessee, allowing the Volunteers to win 52-49 on a game-winning field goal.

Three weeks later the defense was again at fault when LSU managed to secure a 32-31 win by converting a two-point conversion on Alabama in overtime.

Golding would leave Alabama following the season to take the same position at Ole Miss.

“We are excited to add a championship caliber coach like Pete Golding to our staff,” Kiffin said in a press release after Golding’s hire. “At multiple stops in his career, Coach Golding has directed some of college football’s top defenses. He is also an outstanding recruiter and understands the level of talent necessary to compete at the highest level.

“I think this continues to show our commitment to taking Ole Miss Football to the next level.”
