Saturday’s game between Ole Miss and Tennessee caught headlines for Volunteers fans throwing trash and other objects onto the field of play. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was even struck by a golf ball during the chaos. After this incident, Ole Miss basketball head coach coach Kermit Davis took the opportunity to poke fun and call out Kiffin’s golf game.

“The way he hits it off the tee, he needs to keep that ball,” Davis said. “Cause he’s gonna need it in the spring.”

Kiffin took to Instagram to respond to the playful jab from Davis.

“I don’t hit the ball the ball hits me,” Kiffin said.

While Kiffin’s golf game might be in question, he was able to lead Ole Miss to a win over Tennessee on a crazy night.

Kiffin downplayed being hit by the golf ball during the Ole Miss win

After the game against Tennessee, Kiffin didn’t have much to say about him being struck by the golf ball. Instead, he told his Ole Miss team to get ready to play.

“They were just throwing stuff and I said, ‘Put your helmet on and let’s play,'” Kiffin said. “It is what it is. There are 100,000 people that came out and they’re passionate. It didn’t go the way they wanted.”

After the win, Ole Miss is now 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in SEC play. Ole Miss must now face a LSU team that is coming off of a big upset over Florida. Although the Tigers could be distracted after the news of Ed Orgeron’s departure at the end of the season.

Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral is banged up entering Week 8, leaving his status for the game in doubt according to Kiffin. Corral is reportedly “not in good shape,” and Kiffin is hopeful he is able to play. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
