Lane Kiffin scored the knockout blow to WBCI News (Starkville, MS) Sports Director Jon Sokoloff in the second round amid the Kiffin to Auburn rumors running wild Monday night.

The Ole Miss head coach tweeted the following:

Kiffin’s tweet is a mirror image of Sokoloff’s original tweet that announced that Kiffin intended to step down as Rebels headman in favor of the Auburn job. Kiffin emphatically shot the report down with a prior tweet before dropping the subsequent (and hilarious) troll.

The Ole Miss head coach has been rumored as No. 1 target for the Tigers head coaching vacancy since Bryan Harsin’s firing in late October. Regardless if the reports are true, Kiffin being able to poke fun at the local Mississippi journalist is something a Monday night on Twitter was in need of.

“I don’t know what else to say. I’m extremely happy here,” Kiffin said.

Hours later, reports have surfaced saying that he’s leaning toward leaving the Rebels in favor of Auburn. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as many believed him to be the No. 1 target for the Tigers head coaching vacancy since Bryan Harsin’s firing in late October.

It should be noted that the report said Auburn has not formally offered to job to anyone as of Monday night, but Kiffin could be announced as the Tigers’ new headman as soon as Friday, one day following the 2022 Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Regardless if the rumors are true, Kiffin never said he wasn’t considering the position. Only that he was extremely happy in Oxford. For now, however, it seems the final outcome will be up for personal interpretations for the time being.
