Lane Kiffin opens up on his frustrations following loss against Alabama
After letting a lead it held for most of the game slip away late in the fourth quarter, Ole Miss had one final chance to score and put the game away at home against Alabama. The points didn’t materialize and Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin was notably upset after the game.
In his postgame press conference, Kiffin was animated as ever, telling reporters he “didn’t give a sh*t” about the Rebels yardage or points totals. They lost, and he was ticked.
Speaking with reporters early the following week, Kiffin lamented having to cover the same ground once more.
“You play the game. When you lose you gotta deal with Saturday and Saturday night. Then you gotta watch with the staff on Sunday, so you relive it. Then you gotta watch it with your players Monday morning,” Kiffin said. “Relive it. And, you know, you wanna move on and you gotta come here. So to recap it, as you guys know, in here I was very frustrated after the game.”

The root cause of the frustrations for Kiffin is that a chance like Saturday — to beat Alabama — doesn’t come around very often.

He reminisced about his lone year at Tennessee, when the Vols had a chance to go kick a field goal and beat Alabama but couldn’t pull it off.
And Kiffin recognized that his players might not have the same perspective on it that he does, at least not yet.
“They don’t usually understand what they’re going through and what that moment is and how rare that moment may be,” Kiffin said. “So, I was just frustrated for our players to be that close, to have the ball in your hands against Alabama, controlling the outcome. If you take some time off the clock and score, you beat Alabama. And that’s a rare thing. I told them today, I was in that situation 13 years ago, ball in our hands at Tennessee, going down to kick a field goal to beat Alabama. So, it doesn’t happen very often, so that’s why there was a lot of frustration in that.”
