Lane Kiffin picks up multiple bonuses totaling $200k with win over Texas A&M
Lane Kiffin not only got the huge win over one of his bitter rivals on Saturday in Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher. He also had a sweet payday in the big win.
The Aggies missed a potential game-tying 47-yard field goal as time expired. The missed field goal not only lifted the Rebels to victory, but earned Kiffin multiple bonuses, according to Steve Berkowitz of USA Today.
He’ll earn $150k for his team’s fifth SEC win of the year. And Ole Miss earned their 8th win of the year, assuring the Rebels of a bid to a primary SEC bowl game, tacking on $50k in bonuses for Kiffin.
Ole Miss managed to pull out the heart-stopping win
Saturday’s game between Ole Miss and Texas A&M featured plenty of storylines. The Rebels ranked in the top 10 of the first College Football Rankings this week while the Aggies were one game away from bowl eligibility after last year’s 5-7 record.
Ultimately, it was Lane Kiffin who got the better of Jimbo Fisher in final seconds thanks to a blocked field goal. After the game, the Ole Miss social team dropped a video to troll Fisher and the Aggies.
The Ole Miss Football X/Twitter account retweeted Texas A&M’s tweet of the final score with the video, which includes quotes from Fisher and an Aggie yell leader ahead of the game, as well as some memes.
Texas A&M had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but Ole Miss blocked Randy Bond’s field goal attempt to seal the 38-35 win to improve to 8-1 on the season. The Rebels are now one step closer to another 10-win season under Kiffin while the Aggies remain in the fight for a bowl game.
Ole Miss got out to a quick start against Texas A&M, taking a 14-0 lead out of the gate. The Aggies closed the gap, though, and made it a 20-14 Rebels lead into the break as Ole Miss put together a huge offensive performance before halftime.

In the second half, Texas A&M made things really interesting. The Aggies kept pace with Ole Miss and took a 35-31 lead with 4:34 to play in the fourth quarter. But the Rebels bounced back to score with 1:40 to play when Quinshon Judkins found the end zone to put his team back out in front 38-35.
It came down to Bond’s leg, and his kick fell short after Deantre Prince got a finger on the ball. Ole Miss survived — and Kiffin sure seemed relieved during his postgame interview.
Lane Kiffin seemed relieved to bring home the win
“Thank God for this opportunity to coach these players. This is a really cool group of coaches and players,” Kiffin told ESPN sideline reporter Katie George postgame. “For the game to end like it did today after the 10-point swing [in the second quarter] to finish the game. That’s awesome for our players.
“Credit to Texas A&M for playing a great game and taking us down to the wire.”
To have a game like that against a defense that averaged 19.5 points and 269.5 yards allowed per game — the latter of which led the SEC — Kiffin said that added to the sweetness of the victory.
“This is one of the best defenses in the country,” Kiffin said. “They give people problems and we were able to put up 38 points even though we screwed up in the red zone. It’s awesome and all the credit goes to our players. It’s a great win.”
