As Luke Altmyer attempts to convince Lane Kiffin he’s the right choice to be the Ole Miss starting quarterback, there’s nobody that can question his toughness.

While Altmyer was playing well on Saturday against Central Arkansas, the Rebels quarterback was forced to leave the game with what the team called an upper body injury. Afterwards, Kiffin elaborated on just how Altmyer was feeling at the time, and after the victory.

“It wasn’t something where medical pulled him. He was hurt. I asked him about putting him back in there in the second half, and he just said he would go, but he just knew he wasn’t 100%,” stated Kiffin.

Luckily, the Rebels completely took care of business on Saturday, as Ole Miss led 31-0 at halftime of the showdown. During his time in the game, Altmyer threw two touchdowns, proving he’s more than capable of leading Ole Miss.

Still, Lane Kiffin and the Rebels were smart not to risk further injury during a blowout. If Ole Miss is to recreate the success they had last season, they’re going to need Luke Altmyer healthy down the line.

Lane Kiffin provides insight into whether he’s seen enough to name a starting quarterback

Moreover, Lane Kiffin still hasn’t named a starting quarterback for Ole Miss through two weeks of the 2022 season, letting both Jaxson Dart and Luke Altmyer split the reps thus far.

The Rebels have been able to find victory in two games thus far, defeating Troy and Central Arkansas to begin their season. However, the schedule is about to get a little less forgiving, beginning Week 3 with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Speaking to the media after their 59-3 victory on Saturday, Kiffin provided some insight into whether he’s seen enough from his quarterback duo to name a starting quarterback.

“We’ll have to go watch the film,” stated Kiffin. “I felt back for Luke because he was injured, and he’s so competitive that he stayed in, even when we asked him. I think you could see on the interception, obviously there was an issuer there.

“So we’ll go back and look at the film and see what we think.”

During Saturday’s victory, Dart completed 10 of 15 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Altmyer passed for 90 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while completing 6 of 13 passes on the night.

Whether Jaxon Dart or Luke Altmyer is starting for the remainder of the season for Ole Miss, there will be some lofty expectations placed on their shoulders.
