Lane Kiffin provides injury update on Matt Corral
Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral is starting each week for head coach Lane Kiffin, but the likely NFL Draft selection come spring is not 100% healthy.
On Monday, Kiffin discussed Corral’s ankle injury status and whether or not the weekdays in between games are enough to allow him to heal fully.
“I hope not,” Kiffin said when asked if Corral would continue to deal with the nagging injury. “The problem is it’s not like there’s a bye sitting in there, so he kind of has reaggravated it every Saturday. I think this week will be very similar to last week, but hopefully eventually that’s not the case.”
The redshirt junior racked up the yardage against Liberty in a 27-14 win last week despite accounting for just one touchdown. He finished 20-for-27 with 324 yards, a touchdown and a completion percentage of 74.1%. He had his second-worst rushing performance of the year, likely partially due to the ankle; Corral averaged 1.5 yards per carry on six carries.
Corral has lost steam in the Heisman race, but he is still having a very productive season leading one of the country’s top offenses. In addition to 2,527 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns and just two interceptions, Corral is Ole Miss’ leading rusher. He has 116 carries for 528 yards and 10 rushing scores.
Injury-plagued Rebels offense preparing for matchup against Aggies defense
Ole Miss has had numerous injuries this season, particularly at the wide receiver position.
The Rebels had Braylon Sanders back against Liberty last week, but he is not 100%. Jonathan Mingo, who suffered a broken foot last month, will be likely back for the bowl game.

Ole Miss will need to arrive at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium ready to play on Saturday, as the Texas A&M defense will be an immense challenge.
The Aggies boast the second-best scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 14.7 points per game. They have allowed more than 14 points just twice all season.
The good news for Ole Miss is that the two offenses which gave Alabama issues are some of the SEC’s best, like the Rebels. Mississippi State posted 26 points, Alabama scored 38 in a shootout loss to Texas A&M.
Texas A&M is a 2.5-point favorite for the game which kicks off at 6:00 p.m. CT on ESPN. ESPN’s College Gameday will be on site in Oxford starting at 8:00 a.m. CT.
