Lane Kiffin shares Tre Harris' mindset after injury
After missing over a month due to a severe groin injury, Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris returned to action in the Rebels’ 24-17 loss to Florida on Saturday. However, in the second quarter, disaster struck and Harris reaggravated his groin injury, causing him to miss the rest of the game. On Monday, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin discussed Harris’ mindset following the injury.
“He’s still figuring it out,” Kiffin said. “Getting some different opinions on it. So, I don’t know much more than that right now.”
Before leaving the game, Harris recorded one 43-yard catch, which resulted in a touchdown. Despite having not played since Week 7, Harris still leads the SEC in receiving yards with 1,030 this season. He also boasts seven receiving touchdowns, tied for the second-most in the conference.
When Harris left the game against the Gators, there was an evident shift in momentum. While the game was tied 14-14, Ole Miss’ offense looked dangerous, consistently driving down the field against Florida.
Alas, directly after Harris left the game with his injury, the Rebels missed a 34-yard field goal and didn’t find the end zone the rest of the game. While Kiffin was relatively tight-lipped about Harris’ condition on Tuesday, he discussed the injury a bit more immediately after the loss.
“Just a freak situation,” Kiffin said. “He got hit right on the same injury. Exactly, right where it was, and then dropped the ball because of it.

“Obviously the injury happened, we don’t get the catch and we miss the field goal, too… A lot of bad breaks today. It is what it is. Sometimes they go your way, sometimes they don’t.”
Kiffin wasn’t the only one who weighed in on the frustration of Ole Miss’ top receiver being sidelined again.
“It sucks,” Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart said. “You never want to see your best friend or a teammate go down. He’s done everything he could to come back. Just feel horrible in that situation. Hopefully he can find a way to come back.”
Tre Harris doesn’t have much time to work with. Ole Miss has a short week, as it prepares to square off agianst Mississippi State on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ABC.
