Lane Kiffin tweets at Katy Perry following College GameDay announcement
ESPN’s College GameDay is headed back to Oxford for the Texas A&M–Ole Miss game on Saturday, and it is clear who Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin would like to be the guest picker for the event.
Just after Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit made the announcement during ESPN’s Saturday Night Football broadcast, Kiffin took to Twitter to tweet at popstar Katy Perry.
Kiffin and Perry exchanged messages via Twitter a few months ago. Perry offered support for quarterback Matt Corral’s Heisman campaign early in the season, and Kiffin extended an invite to Perry using his famous phrase, “come to the Sip.”
Clearly, Perry is firmly on the Lane Train.
Ole Miss is 2-1 all-time in College GameDay games, while Texas A&M is 1-7.
Perry has a history of riling up Ole Miss fans
Perry was the guest picker in the 2014 Alabama-Ole Miss game, the only other time ESPN visited Oxford. She famously held up a corn dog while picking the Rebels to beat the Crimson Tide and threw some into the onlooking crowd.
Perry’s legendary appearance on College GameDay led to a 23-17 victory over Alabama.
Perry even took things to the next level in 2015, when she appeared on the jumbotron to pump up the crowd in a game against LSU. Ole Miss won that game 38-17.

The matchup will pit one of the best offenses in the country in Ole Miss against one of the best defenses in the country in Texas A&M. The Aggies were allowing 16.1 points per game entering Saturday, and they held Auburn three points.
Both 7-2 teams won on Saturday. Ole Miss defeated former head coach Hugh Freeze’s Liberty team while Texas A&M topped the Tigers in College Station.
College GameDay starts at 8:00 a.m. CT, and the game kicks off at 6:00 p.m. CT on ESPN. The teams did not face each other last year due to COVID-19 issues. ESPN’s Football Power Index gives Ole Miss a 57.4% chance of notching their eighth win.
