Lane Kiffin wants Kanye West to drop his album before football season
Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin has mastered social media. In an era of college sports where every athlete can be reach with the touch of a button, no one uses that button quite like him. Kiffin took to Twitter on Thursday night to ask rapper Kanye West to release his latest album.
Reports surfaced two weeks ago that one of the world’s most famous musical artists was living inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The night before this news broke, West held a listening party inside the stadium, giving fans a glimpse at his latest album, Donda.
Social media sensation
Fans have been waiting for the new music to drop for more than a year now as the release date continues to float further away. Reports surfaced that the album could become available on Aug. 6, following another show inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Kiffin took to social media to share his thoughts on the growing saga.
“No Hurry @kanyewest I don’t need that dressing room for a month,” wrote Kiffin. “#DropDONDA and stick around for @OleMissFB @CFAPeachBowl.”
With Kanye West topping the social media world on Thursday, Kiffin managed to draw attention toward college football. It was not the first time he capitalized on a trending story to promote his school. In fact, he did the same thing earlier in the day when soccer club FC Barcelona announced club legend Lionel Messi would not return for the upcoming season.

Preparing for the season
As the wait for Donda continues, there is still time. The Rebels open the season in Atlanta against Louisville on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. Kiffin will not need the dressing room currently occupied by West for another 31 days.
Kiffin is 5-5 after one season at Ole Miss. He joined the Rebels after a successful stint at FAU. Prior to that, he spent three seasons revitalizing his career as the offensive coordinator at Alabama.
Ole Miss returns its starting quarterback Matt Corral in 2021 and has the dynamic backfield of Jerrion Ealy and Snoop Connor back. The veteran wide receiver room features Missouri transfer Jalen Knox and senior Dontario Drummond. The defense brings back linebacker Lakia Henry along with defensive backs Keidron Smith and AJ Finley following big seasons in 2020. This is a more experienced group with a lot of talent returning for year two under Kiffin.
