Louisville transfer PF James Scott signs with Ole Miss

Louisville transfer power forward James Scott has signed with Ole Miss, On3 has learned. Scott spent one season with the Cardinals after beginning his career at College of Charleston in the 2023-24 season.
Scott started in 31 of 35 games at Louisville this past season. He shot an incredibly efficient 75.5% from the floor across 23.6 minutes per game. That came with averages of 7.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest.
Scott was one of the most coveted pieces in the transfer portal, ranking as the No. 78 overall player and No. 15 power forward according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He averaged 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds in his true freshman season at Charleston.
The 6-foot-11 forward played high school basketball at E.E. Smith, where he was a three-star prospect in the 2023 class. He ranked as the No. 254 overall player and No. 36 center in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Scott is the fifth player that the Rebels have added through the portal this offseason. They’ve also lost four to rank No. 23 according to On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

The college basketball transfer portal officially opened for business on Monday, March 24, and closed on Tuesday, April 22. As of this writing, more than 1,100 players had already entered their names.
Last spring alone, 1,962 Division I players tested the portal waters. Based on the early numbers from this year, even more could follow. For the first time in history, more than half of the points scored in college basketball were scored by players from the transfer portal, not high school, in the 2024-25 season.
In data gathered over the first two years with transfer windows, the NCAA found most athletes enter the portal within the first four weeks of the portal opening. The study showed that 73% of men’s and women’s basketball undergraduate athletes entered during the first four weeks. That increased to 82% for men and 86% for women in 2024.
