Lane Kiffin provides update on Luke Altmyer injury, status
Lane Kiffin has run a quarterback shuffle that would make Steve Spurrier proud through the first two weeks of the 2022 season. But could a Luke Altmyer injury throw off the mojo going into Week 3 and a game on the road against Georgia Tech?
That’s unclear, but it doesn’t sound like the upper body injury he suffered in Saturday’s win over Central Arkansas has kept him out of practice.
“Yeah, he was out there today,” Kiffin said Monday. “I think he’ll be all right. So we’re just going to push forward the way that we’ve been going. We’re 2-0. So we’ll figure out who goes first at some point later in the week, probably.”
Altmyer left the team’s win Saturday after revealing to Kiffin during the game he wasn’t 100%. Kiffin noted he thought Altmyer’s injury played a part in the lone interception he threw in the game, his first of the season.
Still, Kiffin wasn’t about to reveal any detailed information on Altmyer or his quarterback rotation on Monday.
Ole Miss players used to the QB shuffle?
While the Luke Altmyer injury could change the dynamic the Rebels have employed at quarterback through the first two weeks, it is worth noting he has thrown significantly fewer passes than USC transfer Jaxson Dart.
Dart is 28-of-42 passing for 336 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He has yet to take a sack this season. He’s also added six carries for 45 yards with his legs, a dimension Altmyer hasn’t provided.

Altmyer, for his part, has gone 7-of-15 passing for 103 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
Whether Kiffin is leaning toward sticking with Dart more permanently remains unclear. Kiffin’s not sure he’s seen a tangible impact of the shuffling on other players, at least not in a detrimental way.
So until further notice, you can probably expect the Rebels to at least keep toying around with the rotation.
“I don’t know. It just is what it is,” Kiffin said. “Maybe they’re used to it. So both guys did some good things, both guys got some things to improve on. So we’re just going to keep pushing along.”
