The Nissan Fan vote winner for the Heisman Trophy was revealed tonight by ESPN’s Marty Smith. He announced that Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral was the winner for the Nissan Fan vote.

Corral dissected defenses all season long for the Rebels and combined a blend of running and accuracy that few SEC defenses could stop. He was surgical with the football, completing 68.4 percent of his passes for 3,339 passing yards, while tossing 20 touchdown passes and just four interceptions.

As a runner, Corral also displayed his dynamic running ability in the open field, rushing 145 times for 597 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns for the Rebels.

Corral is a near-lock to be one of the top ten overall selections in the 2022 NFL Draft.

As far as the list of the votes for the final votes from the media Heisman Trophy, Corral finished 7th.

A special season for Matt Corral

One of Corral’s best performances of his dazzling 2021 season came against Tulane–when he carved the Green Wave up for seven total touchdowns. He threw for three touchdowns and rushed for three more, becoming the first player in SEC history with three passing touchdowns and four rushing touchdowns in a single game.

While he didn’t come close to winning the real Heisman Trophy, the fans certainly thought highly enough of Corral’s season to vote him as the top selection on their ballots.

Before the 2021 college football season, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin made a prediction that his signal-caller would be selected as a top ten pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

“He was throwing it 70 yards with accuracy, and he’s not a huge guy [6-foot-2, 205 pounds],” Kiffin said before the season. “But his whole upper body is loose, really loose. When he does our flexibility test where he puts his arms back, it’s amazing how far back he can go. He’s also a very good quarterback scrambler. He’s not going to be the fastest guy at the [NFL] combine, but he’s got really good feet and is slippery once he starts running,”

Corral has already stated that he won’t skip the Ole Miss bowl game against the Baylor Bears, so the legendary Rebel signal-caller will have one more college game before he departs for the NFL.

The two teams will play against each other in the AllState Sugar Bowl. The game will be played in the Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans, La. Kickoff is slated for 8:45 PM EST and it will be televised on ESPN.
