Oklahoma vs. Ole Miss interrupted by squirrel on field, crowd erupts after scoring touchdown

A squirrel took center stage during the game between Ole Miss and Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon, bringing the crowd at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to its feet with a deafening roar.
The squirrel found itself on the field during a timeout as an Oklahoma player got medical attention on the field following a first-down conversion by Ole Miss.
Within moments, the entire stadium was keyed into the squirrel’s movements.
It started around midfield, then headed toward one of the end zones. At one point the squirrel appeared to get tired, perhaps out of juice after an exciting foray onto the field.
But as two individuals crept up closer to either get a better look at the squirrel or attempt to corral it, it took off again. It raced toward the end zone, with the crowd exploding as it crossed the goal line for the score.

Controversy brewing in Ole Miss, Oklahoma
The squirrel took the heat off an otherwise contentious moment between the two programs on the field. The game had just gone to an injury timeout after Oklahoma defensive lineman Gracen Halton appeared to go down without any contact following a first-down conversion by Ole Miss.
The play in question followed a seven-yard completion for the Rebels, with the offense presumably about to enter hurry-up mode.
Halten took a few steps normally, then glanced toward the sideline. As he did he grabbed his hamstring and went down, to groans and boos from the Ole Miss crowd. Rebels coach Lane Kiffin was not happy about it, as it was the second time an Oklahoma player had gone down in the first quarter.
Even the ESPN broadcast crew commented on the issue, noting how difficult it is to properly police.
Worth noting, though: Halton reportedly received fluids and was being stretched out by trainers on the sidelines.
Ole Miss and Oklahoma were tied at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.
