Ole Miss had a lot to celebrate tonight after advancing into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The Rebels then had even more so with the announcement made in the locker room for Cam Brent.

Chris Beard let Brent do the honors of putting No. 6 Ole Miss’ name into the next round on their bracket in the locker room after their 91-78 win over No. 3 Iowa State. When he did so, though, he congratulated the junior guard on being put on scholarship in Oxford.

“Congratulations on your free education!” said Beard as he reached to dap up Brent and give him Ole Miss’ label.

Brent has spent the last four years as part of the program at Ole Miss. He didn’t make any appearances until he was an upperclassman with six games as a junior and then seven games this year as a senior with few statistics recorded in those outings.

As for the team, the Rebels are now in the Sweet 16 for the first time since the turn of the century back in 2001. They also were the team that set the new record for the Southeastern Conference for the most teams ever from one league to be in a Sweet 16. That’s with wins for Ole Miss over No. 11 North Carolina and No. 3 Iowa State over the last three days in Milwaukee. Sean Pedulla (20 points (48.1% FG, 43.8% 3PT), 6.5 assists) led those efforts with them getting even more contributions from top to bottom in the second win against the Cyclones.

Again, Ole Miss has much to be excited about as they prepare to play No. 2 Michigan State later this week in Atlanta. That said, Brent was the biggest winner on the team tonight with what the team’s achievement and his own scholarship will mean to him from tonight on.
