It’s officially the time of the college football season when projected NFL draftees are making the choice not to play in their team’s postseason bowl game. While many big-name players across the country and choosing to end their collegiate playing days early, there is one team that hasn’t had a single player opt-out of their upcoming bowl game: Ole Miss.
While meeting with the media on Monday, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was asked about the conversations he was having with players that weren’t going to be playing in the team’s Sugar Bowl game against Baylor. It was a simple question for him to answer.
“We’ve had zero,” Kiffin said. “I would assume we won’t have any based off people practicing today, so I think that says a lot about this team and these guys for how serious this is, how important it is. You get to go play in the Sugar Bowl with a chance to win the Sugar Bowl and win more games that’s ever been done in the history of the school. That’s a pretty cool thing to be a part.”
Ole Miss is 10-2 overall and ranked No. 8 in the final College Football Playoff Top 25 heading into its New Year’s Day matchup with No. 7 Baylor (11-2). Kickoff is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. ET at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, and ESPN will be carrying the national broadcast.
Lane Kiffin provides latest on search for Ole Miss offensive coordinator
As Ole Miss is getting ready for the Sugar Bowl, the Rebels have to start getting ready to find a new offensive coordinator. Based on Lane Kiffin’s comments this week, it sounds like he’s not rushing that process.

Jeff Lebby is leaving Ole Miss after the Sugar Bowl to become the offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Oklahoma. It sounds like Kiffin and Ole Miss aren’t looking for his replacement just yet.
“We’ve been busy recruiting,” Kiffin said Monday. “We want to make the right hire. So I really don’t have any information on that except for those are big shoes to fill. [Lebby has] done a great job.”
Lebby was hired to join Brent Venables last week at Oklahoma. He’s a huge reason why Ole Miss had the top offense in the SEC, averaging 506.7 total yards per game.
Quarterback Matt Corral also flourished under Lebby, becoming a Heisman Trophy contender this year by averaging 278.3 passing yards per game.
