Ole Miss commits using hashtag to recruit 4-star WR Braylon Burnside
On Nov. 6, Starkville (Miss.) four-star wide receiver Braylon “Stonka” Burnside decommitted from Mississippi State, doing so less than five months after originally pledging in the summer.
The 6-foot-0.5, 195-pounder was one of the highest-ranked recruits in the Bulldogs’ class but decided to opt out of his hometown pledge and put his name back on the board.
“I would like to thank the hometown for the loyalty and love that you all showed me. I have been committed to Mississippi state since June 2023. I’ve dreamed about playing in Davis Wade Stadium for a long time, but God has another plan. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am decommitting from Mississippi State and reopening my recruitment,” Burnside wrote in his announcement.
Soon after, another school began garnering some buzz with the blue-chipper. While it isn’t right next door, it’s still not too far down the road. Ole Miss currently leads for his pledge, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).
In turn, current Ole Miss commits are showing Burnside love on social media to try and bring the No. 43 WR and No. 6 player in the state — per the On3 Industry Ranking — to Oxford next season. Ocean Springs (Miss.) St. Martin four-star WR Noreel White tweeted the hashtag ‘Stonktothesip’ on Wednesday night.

On Thursday, Lake Cormorant (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin — the Rebels’ top commit — quoted White’s tweet, telling Burnside to ‘come home.’
Burnside has taken around 10 documented trips to Oxford throughout his recruitment. The Rebels are now looking to complete the important in-state flip as they try to improve their 2024 class with the Early Signing Period on the horizon.
“The buzz has been around Ole Miss for the playmaker out of Starkville (Miss.), and the Rebels are viewed as the frontrunner,” On3’s Chad Simmons wrote. “Texas A&M received an official visit from Burnside in June and the Aggies are strongly being considered as well. Ole Miss has four wide receivers committed…Lane Kiffin and company would love to add this in-state target to the group.”
Burnside does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
