No one loves a good Twitter trolling quite like Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. And Saturday presented the perfect opportunity for him to send a jab the way of Billy Napier and SEC rival Florida.

Florida 2025 quarterback commit Austin Simmons announced that he will be reclassifying the Class of 2023 and flipped his commitment to the Rebels. Soon after, Kiffin took to Twitter to give the Gators a good ribbing, posting a tweet with a screenshot of Tom Petty’s Spotify profile.

Petty is a Gainesville native, and Florida plays his song ‘Won’t Back Down’ between the third and fourth quarter of games at the Swamp. The addition of the last name ‘Petty’ and his No. 1 song on the profile being ‘Free Fallin” only adds to the epic nature of Kiffin’s trolling.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Simmons is the No. 72 overall prospect and No. 4 quarterback in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is yet to be rated as a Class of 2023 recruit by any service.

He joins an Ole Miss class that ranked No. 25 nationally in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings but did not have a 2023 quarterback commit. The Rebels added LSU transfer passer Walker Howard and Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders during the offseason to a quarterback room that already included 2022 starter Jaxson Dart.

During his sophomore season, Simmons passed for 3,161 yards and 24 touchdowns to just nine interceptions. He also ran for three more scores as well. At True North Classical Academy (Fla.), he hit .365 and drove in 16 runs. On the bump, he was 4-1 with a 2.65 earned run average.

The 17-year-old Simmons has a 5.35 GPA and graduated from high school as a freshman. He currently is on track to obtain his associate’s degree before he enrolls with the Rebels.
