Lane Kiffin has hilarious response when discussing his son's youth football game
Week 10’s electric weekend of college football did not include Ole Miss, who had a much-needed bye week after nine straight weeks of games. Head coach Lane Kiffin was asked how he spent his bye week, which included, as expected, some recruiting, but also being able to watch his eighth-grade son Knox play some football.
“I did some recruiting, went in a couple different places as well as our staff, and then had a chance to see Knox play a game and then got back yesterday,” Kiffin said. “And that maybe sounds strange because they won the Super Bowl so why they still played, but it was a regional game and they got knocked off by this all-star team from Arizona so they didn’t play very well.”
Knox’s team may have won their local Super Bowl matchup, but faced a tough out-of-state opponent during the Rebel’s bye week. Kiffin was asked about the play of his son in their game, but not without mentioning a questionable characteristic of the opponent he faced.

“He was okay, their team was really outperformed, they’ve gotta check birth certificates. I mean these guys were supposed to be in eighth grade, and I kept saying to Knox, I’m like there is not a chance these guys are in eighth grade from Arizona. These guys looked like they were in 11th, 12th grade so I don’t know, they gotta check the birth certificates,” Kiffin said.

It’s clear Kiffin wanted to see some I.D. of his son’s opponent this weekend, but his hilarious remark was also followed by another, as he also had some questions about the age of another youth football team in his own backyard from Tupelo, Mississippi.
“Which I said the same thing when I went and watched the eighth graders here play against Tupelo, that Tupelo team, I mean those guys look like they’re 20 years old too,” Kiffin smiled and said.
Maybe Kiffin’s remarks will be enough to spark an investigation on the age of some of his son’s opponents, but now his focus shifts from birth certificates to the playbook, as he faces Alabama in a big-time SEC West matchup. Kiffin will be looking to secure is his first win against his former colleague Nick Saban, as the Rebels will take on the Crimson Tide at home this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. airing on CBS.
