Ole Miss is expected to hire Maryland’s Wes Neighbors as the new safeties coach, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Neighbors is a former Alabama player and staffer and previously worked with Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin at Florida Atlantic, as well as with the Crimson Tide. Neighbors also coached safeties at Maryland under Mike Locksley, who also comes from the Alabama coaching tree under Nick Saban.

Neighbors spent just one season at Maryland after he served as the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns safeties coach in 2021, helping the team go 13-1 and winning the Sun Belt Conference.

Maryland went 8-5, winning the Duke’s Mayo  Bowl 16-12 over NC State this season.

Ole Miss finished 8-5 as well, losing the Texas Bowl 42-25 to Texas Tech. Kiffin is now 23-13 overall as the Rebels’ head coach in three seasons. The team finished No. 11 in the final AP Poll in 2021 but unranked this year.
