Bernard Causey put schools around the country on notice this spring and summer. Now, the Crescent City cornerback has locked in his commitment ahead of his senior season.

Causey, the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 86-rated CB in the country out of New Orleans (La.) John F. Kennedy High School, gave a commitment to the Rebels on Wednesday. Ole Miss entered the race midway through the spring and has been trending with one of the major stock-up 2024 recruits in The Boot ever since.

Louisiana native and defensive coordinator Pete Golding led Ole Miss’ charge for Causey.

“When Coach Golding threw me the offer, I was happy because was my second SEC offer,” Causey told On3. “What separates Coach Golding from other coaches is that he did everything said he was gonna do. Coach Golding has been in contact with me every day since I got that offer and I know he’s gonna take good care of me.”

“I love his honesty,” the 6-foot-1, 170-pound pesky defensive back continued. “When I first met him, he showed me that I would be able to play for him right that minute. I know who he is — a defensive mastermind.”

After visits to LSU, Michigan, and others, the three-star cornerback made his way to Oxford over the weekend for the first time. Causey soaked up the sights and sounds of Ole Miss’ campus and also time around the coaching staff.

“It’s just the atmosphere over there — it felt like home,” he explained. “The teammates made me feel welcomed. So did the coaching staff. Really, everyone up there did … and it’s close to home, but also not too far.”

“Coach Lane (Kiffin) is laid-back but also competitive, and that’s what I love,” Causey added. “Coach Hud (Keynodo Hudson) is hard on you, but that’s the kind of coaching style I need.”

Causey turned in an impressive offseason

The Louisiana-based defensive back was an eye-catcher at LSU’s elite camp earlier this month, which featured several of the state’s top 2024 and 2025 prospects alike.

Causey, who has enjoyed a strong offseason, drew this review from On3:

“Three-star New Orleans (La.) John F. Kennedy CB Bernard Causey has continued to have a brilliant offseason, turning the heads of several coaches in the process. Causey measured in at 6-foot-.5 and 161 pounds and clocked a 4.55-second 40. After posting strong testing numbers, Causey showed well in coverage. A little handsy at times, Causey has great stop-start quickness, enormous confidence and attacks the ball well at the back end of routes. He’s feisty and plays a very aggressive style.”
