Ole Miss looked to have a midweek game against Arkansas State mostly wrapped up heading into the final frame, but a rally by the Red Wolves paved the way for some walk-off drama in extra innings.

The Rebels led 2-0 going into the top of the ninth inning before an error and a hit by pitch helped spark a rally. Arkansas State knotted things up at 2-2 before the rally fizzled.

After Ole Miss came up empty in the bottom of the ninth, the game went to extra innings.

It was there that the walk-off drama would unfold.

After a leadout pop fly to right field, Ole Miss third baseman Luke Hill got aboard with a single to shortstop on an 0-2 count. A full-count strikeout made it two outs, then left fielder Judd Utermark stepped to the plate.

Here’s what he did.

Utermark didn’t even wait for a second pitch to blast the two-run, walk-off shot to left center field.

Offense was at a premium on Tuesday in the game against Arkansas State, and Ole Miss will have to hope the bats come to life in the future. Before Utermark’s walk-off shot, the Rebels had tallied just four hits in the contest. Nobody had multiple hits in the game.

Hill, Utermark, Owen Paino, Bryaden Randle and Hayden Federico had the five hits for Ole Miss.

So on a day like that, you’ll certainly take some late-game heroics. The home run moved the Rebels to 3-1 early in the season.

Ole Miss competed in the Shriners Children’s College Showdown over the weekend, facing No. 21 Arizona, No. 19 Texas and No. 15 Clemson. Two of the three games were decided by run rule, with Ole Miss squeaking by Arizona 2-1, then getting torched by Texas 10-0 before bouncing back to knock off Clemson 15-5.
