Jaxson Dart helped lead Ole Miss to an 8-4 regular season record in his first season under center for the Rebels after transferring in from USC this past offseason. Dart recently made it known publicly that he would be returning to Oxford next season, and explained his reasoning behind the announcement.

“I just felt like there were some questions surrounding it, some of the guys on the team,” Dart said. “There’s always rumors that fly around no matter what, whatever I say or anybody, there’s says just rumors out sometimes.”

Dart admitted that joining a new program at Ole Miss was not easy, especially coming from a west coast background. Dart was a four-star out of Corner Canyon high school in Utah who spent one season in Los Angels with the Trojans before taking his talents nearly 2,000 miles away to Oxford, which took some getting used to.

“So I think that my relationship with just the community of Oxford and Ole Miss it’s kind of been on a roller coaster a little bit just coming from the west coast it’s a little bit different atmosphere and it’s taken me some time to get used to,” Dart said. “But I’ve really found a joy of being here, I’ve loved the people and I’ve loved the support that this community brings along with it and I just feel like this is the best place for me to be, where I’m able to just focus on developing myself as a person off the field.”

On the field Dart took care of business and settled in quickly, throwing for 2,613 yards and 18 touchdowns in an environment that quickly grew on him over time.

“And then on the field there’s not a ton of distractions and everybody surrounding the community is so focused on football and just athletics that they really want everybody to be great, so I love that part of it. And I just really wanted the guys to know that this was the place I wanted to be,” Dart said.

Dart even remembers the exact moment when he truly fit in and got integrated at Ole Miss, and hopefully, he can continue to blossom on and off the field with the Rebels for years to come.

“I remember talking to my mom about this, I think it was probably a week before we started fall camp. That was the time where I really started to settle down and settle myself in,” Dart explained. “I was kind of able to find my crowd of just the teammates and the people that I wanted to be around outside the football field and I really found joy in where I was at and I think from then on it’s just progressively gotten better.”
