Charlie Weis Jr joined the Ole Miss staff this year as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Weis Jr spent two years with head coach Lane Kiffin in the same role when he was at FAU, and quarterback Luke Altmyer spoke on what he brings to the staff.

“We’re just constantly growing, we have a lot of fun together, we’re always bouncing ideas off of each other. He’s one of the smartest offensive minds I’ve ever been around and really thankful to have him in my corner. Obviously, his relationship with coach Kiffin is obviously comforting for me and the whole offense as well,” Alymyer said.

Altmyer also spoke on what the offense will look like under the Kiffin and Weis Jr duo, speaking on the overall state of the Rebel’s offensive staff.

“Yeah, I just think you’ll see a combination of so many different things, some things we did last year. Obviously, Lane Kiffin does his own things and he’s a great offensive mind and coach Weis even brings his own schemes and things like that into what we do. And even some of our support staff have great ideas as well, I think we have a great offensive staff as a whole. They have great minds and they’re going to put us in the best position to win,” Alymyer said.

At Florida Atlantic, Weis Jr and Kiffin lead an offense in 2019 that ranked in the top 20 in scoring and total offense, leading them to the Conference USA championship. In the past two seasons under Kiffin, Ole Miss has led the SEC in total offense with 492.5 yards per game. Kiffin hasn’t yet named a starting quarterback between Alymyer and transfer Jaxson Dart, but whoever leads the Rebel’s offense will definitely be expected to maintain their recent offensive success, which may be enhanced with the addition of Weis Jr.

Luke Altmyer details ‘unique’ Ole Miss team, new faces on offense

Ole Miss quarterback Luke Altmyer recently spoke to the media and was asked about the number of new faces on the roster this year, many of which will be key contributors to the Rebel’s offensive success this season. Altmeyer spoke on the uniqueness of year’s team and what he expects from them with the season right around the corner.

“This is a very unique year, a very unique team and season, so many impact players will be guys from other schools and even freshmen coming in I feel like. So it’ll be very exciting to see those guys do their thing and the guys who have been here as well who have impacted this team in a great way will do amazing things for us as well, but it’s obviously a challenge to kind of mold that team together and grow together,” Altmyer said.

Altmyer has been in a quarterback competition with transfer Jaxson Dart for all of spring and fall camp, with head coach Lane Kiffin still not naming a starter in the midst of their season opener just a few days away. Regardless, Altmeyer still seems focused on one thing, winning.

“But I think Jared Ivey spoke on it, everybody here just wants to win, and that comes from coach Kiffin and just the team itself. It’s a winning culture here and very thankful for it,” Altmyer said.
