The 2022 NFL Draft is just a few weeks away, but there are still a lot of questions surrounding this year’s quarterback class. One of the biggest questions in this year’s draft class is Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral.

“Ole Miss QB Matt Corral is scheduled to visit next week with the Panthers, Eagles, Steelers, Saints and Falcons, per source,” Schefter tweeted.

Corral broke onto the scene at Ole Miss in 2020, putting himself on the NFL Draft radar. That year, he completed 70.9% of his pass attempts for 3,337 yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. This past season, Corral solidified his draft stock with a very strong year. He threw for 3,349 yards with 20 touchdowns, and cut down to just five interceptions. Corral also established himself as a true weapon with his legs, rushing for 614 yards and 11 touchdowns.

While Corral is viewed alongside Sam Howell and Desmond Ridder in the second tier of quarterbacks in this class behind Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis, he could slide up on draft night depending on how the rest of the first round plays out.

Corral’s pre-draft meetings are with some interesting fits across the league

This wave of meetings for Corral ahead of the NFL Draft includes some intriguing fits across the league. First, the Panthers hold the sixth overall pick. Most expect Carolina to take Pickett or Willis, or even an offensive lineman. The Panthers also do not currently have a pick in the second round. Carolina is in obvious need of an upgrade at quarterback, but No. 6 might be too early for Corral, perhaps signaling a possible trade back to recuperate more draft capital.

Also in the NFC South, the Saints and Falcons are possible landing spots for Corral in the draft. The Saints re-signed Jameis Winston and also brought in Andy Dalton, but having Corral around and having him stay healthy and learn the offense for a year or two might not be a bad idea. The Falcons could be a spot for more immediate playing time for Corral, as Atlanta has Marcus Mariota in line to start next season. New Orleans holds the 16th and 19th overall picks, while the Falcons have No. 8. The Falcons also have 43rd and 48th overall, while the Saints have No. 49.

The Steelers have Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Dwayne Haskins under contract, but have been linked to Pickett and Willis. If neither is available, Corral could add to the depth in that quarterback room. Philadelphia is interesting, largely due to the fact that the team has seemingly committed to Jalen Hurts for another year. The Eagles have the 15th and 18th picks in the first round, and 51st overall in the second round.

ESPN’s Todd McShay has Corral going 40th overall to the Seattle Seahawks in his latest NFL mock draft.
