WATCH: Ole Miss dogpiles after winning College World Series

Ole Miss was the final team to get the call for the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday. Ole Miss is the final team remaining at the College World Series and is national champions for the first time in program history.

Only two games were required against Oklahoma in the championship series, having to come back on Sunday afternoon. While the bats may not have been as electric as Saturday, Ole Miss was able to win thanks to elite base running and miscommunication from the Sooners’ battery.

As soon as the final out was recorded, the party was on in Omaha. Well, probably in Oxford as well.

Players stormed onto the field from the Ole Miss dugout and near the pitching mound. The dogpile was on, as a season’s worth of work was completed with the ultimate goal. Stringed confetti flew from the sky as well, making it a true national championship celebration.

Ole Miss last made the College World Series back in 2014, marking a long stretch between appearances in Omaha. For such a historic program, it was getting frustrating not making it college baseball’s most desired venue. Especially after watching in-state arch-rival Mississippi State win the national championship last season.

The journey began back in the Coral Gables Regional, sweeping their way through. In the Super Regional, in-state team Southern Miss ended up hosting, where Ole Miss only took two games to advance to the College World Series.

On their side of the bracket, Ole Miss had to deal with multiple SEC West teams before making it to the final. As they did for much of the postseason, the Rebels swept Oklahoma and are now national champions. A special moment for everyone involved with the program but especially for head coach Mike Bianco.
