Jaxson Dart happy to come away with win in 'legacy game' against LSU
Ole Miss and LSU provided one of the most exciting shootouts of the college football season so far this Saturday, combining for over 100 points as the Rebels defeated the Tigers 55-49 at home.
Students rushed the field in Oxford moments after the game as No. 20 ranked Rebels took down No. 13 ranked Tigers, and joining in them in celebration was Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, who helped his team come from behind in the fourth quarter to pull off a miraculous win that will be remembered in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for quite some time.
It was a huge moment for Dart who’s in the midst of his second season as the team’s starting quarterback, and after the game, he was asked if he would have been so cool, calm, and collected if he was in the same circumstances last season.
“I think that’s tough because I feel like I had moments last year where I did it, I felt like our drive at the end of the Mississippi State game was a big-time drive,” Dart said. “But I don’t think I felt as comfortable as I did this year than last year.”
Dart helped lead a 15-play, 99-yard touchdown drive in the team’s season finale versus the Bulldogs in the Egg Bowl last season. But a failed two-point conversation attempt prevented the Rebels from tying up the game which resulted in a 24-22 loss.
He found himself with his back against the wall again as the Tigers took a 49-40 lead with 8:34 left in the ball game, but this time fully delivered for Ole Miss.

Dart answered with a 10-play drive that ended with him punching in a one-yard touchdown run to bring the Rebels within two points. And after Ole Miss’ defense stopped the Tigers in four plays the following possession, Dart and the offense got the ball back with two minutes and 18 seconds remaining in the game.
“I was just ready for it,” Dart said. “The only thing that I could think of when I was running out of the field was this is like a legacy game, how do you want your legacy to be here? I wanted that moment and I wanted to take full advantage of it.”
With his legacy on his mind, Dart delivered, manning an eight-play, 88-yard scoring drive capped off with him finding Tre Harris for a 13-yard touchdown pass that would serve as the game-winner.
Dart ended the day with 389 yards in the air along with four touchdown passes and 50 yards on the ground with a touchdown rush, and will look to continue building on his legacy this weekend as the Rebels take on another SEC West rival, the Arkansas Razorbacks.
