An apparent medical emergency briefly halted play between Ole Miss and Oklahoma, with a staffer hitting the deck and being tended to immediately by medical personnel.

The game’s broadcast resumed with a short explanation from the broadcast crew following a TV timeout.

“Welcome back to Ole Miss, Bob Wischusen, Louis Riddick and Kris Budden,” Wischusen said. “Eleven and a half minutes to go in the fourth quarter and Ole Miss has a 26-14 lead. We have a brief pause at least here in the fourth quarter.

“There is apparently a medical emergency down on the Ole Miss sideline that, as we speak, paramedics are attending to. So the football game takes a back seat to a real-life emergency down on the Ole Miss sideline, as it seems either an assistant coach or a member of the Ole Miss support staff has gone down on the sideline and is surrounded by EMS personnel. So we will step aside and come back as soon as we can to Oxford.”

The broadcast then took another commercial break.

When the broadcast returned, cameras showed an Ole Miss staffer headed to the locker room on his own power, escorted by medical personnel. Sideline reporter Kris Budden provided a further update.

“That is a team doctor who collapsed on the sidelines,” Budden said. “He was laying on his back on the sideline for a while as doctors came and checked him out. He never lost consciousness. He is up and now walking towards the tunnel, where they have called an ambulance to take him to the nearest hospital. But a good sign after what was a scary couple of moments.”

The game resumed shortly after, with Ole Miss trying to protect a 26-14 lead. The game had ticked down inside of 10 minutes remaining at the time of this writing.
