Ole Miss vs Georgia: Squirrel interrupts play for second time at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in 2024
Everyone in Oxford made a new friend during the Ole Miss–Oklahoma game as a squirrel got onto the field. The animal’s presence caused a slight delay in the game but instantly became a star on social media. A few weeks later, the squirrel decided some more attention was needed and a return was made.
Right before a critical third down for Ole Miss early in the second quarter against Georgia, the squirrel got on the field. Officials instantly blew their whistle and let the situation play out. Eventually, the Bulldogs’ sideline is where the squirrel ended up.
On3’s Andy Staples was able to capture a video of the moment, showing some of the animal’s movement. People inside Vaught Hemingway Stadium went crazy, cheering it on. You can check some of the action from field level here.
The crowd may enjoy it but as ABC’s Sean McDonough pointed out the delay slowed down some of the momentum the Ole Miss offense had going. Head coach Lane Kiffin might be hoping to keep the squirrel on the sidelines and keep their nice offensive start moving.
Lane Kiffin provides update on injured Jaxson Dart
After suffering an injury on the opening possession vs. Georgia, Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart returned to the game with his ankle heavily taped. His toughness drew some praise from Kiffin ahead of the second quarter.

Dart threw an interception on the first drive of Saturday’s game and limped off the field shortly thereafter. He quickly headed to the tent, but later went back to the locker room while Austin Simmons took over.
But Dart returned with 5:04 to play in the first quarter and led a scoring drive to give Ole Miss the lead. Kiffin pointed out his resiliency, but also said the Rebels couldn’t slow down after bouncing back from the rough start to the game.
“He’s really tough,” Kiffin said of Dart during his in-game interview with ABC’s Molly McGrath. “Austin Simmons did a great job coming in. Jaxson, obviously, got hurt and then, threw the interception. Put ourselves in a bad spot, and we’ve played well since.”
