Tre Harris opens up on why he decided to return to Ole Miss for 2024 season
Most teams in the country who have high expectations ahead of the 2024 season have a few things in common. Previous success, key players returning from last season, and new additions to their roster that have the potential to make a big impact.
All boxes that Ole Miss checks off.
Plenty of discourse surrounding the Rebels this offseason has had to do with their massive haul of players through the transfer portal. Highlighted by several additions who join the team with plenty of experience from other SEC programs. But players like wide receiver Tre Harris returning to the team also have a significant impact in Ole Miss’ forecasted success.
Ole Miss kicked off fall camp on Wednesday, where Harris was asked what factors played a role in him returning to the team for the final season of his college career.
“We all felt like we had something more to accomplish and whenever you have that feeling, especially in college, I feel like one thing is these are moments, these are memories that we’re gonna remember forever,” Harris said. “That’s something that’s gonna be core memories for us whenever we’re 50, 60 years old and whenever time has gone by.”
Offensive difference makers like Harris, Jaxson Dart, and Caden Prieskorn decided to return to Oxford despite having the opportunity to pursue a career in the NFL. Knowing that if they all decided to do so, Ole Miss has the potential to be set up for major success even without their 24 transfer portal additions.

“Whenever we decided to make that decision, we all came to each other were like, ‘Hey, we understand that if we all come back and we all decide that we want to come back and do something again, play another year. That this is gonna be a really, really good year for us,'” Harris explained.
Ole Miss finished last year 11-2 season, the team’s second double-digit win season in four years with Lane Kiffin. Both years where the Rebels finished the regular season ranked as a top 12-team, which now means much more ahead of the 2024 season with the expansion of the College Football Playoff.
“And with the new format of the 12-team playoff coming out, that was also a huge factor in us making that decision as well,” Harris admitted. “So for us, those decisions and us making those decisions were really the biggest reasons why.”
Harris and the Rebels seem as primed and motivated as ever to reach college football’s mountain top this season, a journey that will begin with all the work they’ve put into the offseason culminating into fall camp and into a highly anticipated 2024 season.
