Paul Finebaum discusses Lane Kiffin's approach on social media
For the second time this season Alabama head coach Nick Saban will be squaring off with one of his former assistants, as Lane Kiffin and his Ole Miss squad head to Tuscaloosa for both team’s first SEC showdown of the season.
Kiffin likes to keep things interesting off the field, regarded as one of the best follows on Twitter among college head coaches that’s also always good for an attention-grabbing quote at press conferences. But following the Rebels’ latest game college football analyst Cole Cubelic interviewed Kiffin and asked about their upcoming matchup with the Crimson Tide.
To the surprise of Cubelic, Kiffin kept things brief, which he believes is a sign of confidence in his team, which he asked Paul Finebaum about on his show Monday.
“I think at that moment in time I think that is correct, and I’m confused by what was later said in relation to Kevin Steele, which Lane has been promoting and has been decimating,” Finebaum said.
Kiffin made an observation regarding Alabama’s defensive scheme on Sunday, saying he believes that Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kevin Steele is actually not calling the plays for Alabama, and through film observation cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson has assumed the defensive playcalling duties.
He not only said he was preparing his team accordingly for Robinson calling the defense, but even retweeted the report made regarding his comments and quote-tweeted a Sports Illustrated article about the situation.

“So it’s always a game, what Kiffin did last year … I had said something about Alabama and Saban after the LSU loss and then Lane always comes to Coach Saban’s defense, and everyone can see through that, but that’s just who Lane is,” Finebaum explained.
Kiffin has been quite endearing of Saban on Twitter leading up to their matchup this weekend, quote tweeting just the goat emoji in reference to Saban on a graphic of Alabama’s latest win and calling Bryant-Denny Stadium the hardest place to play in another tweet.
“I think it’s impossible to get inside his head because there is a genius inside of this child-like figure, and I say child-like not in relation to his coaching but sometimes the way he handles things on social media,” Finebaum said.
Kiffin’s angle and method to his social media activity will likely never be known, but it will be interesting to see if his tactics pay off versus an Alabama team that many believe looks slightly undermanned this season compared to past seasons.
