Penn State Nittany Lions wide receiver Trey Wallace has committed to transfer to the Ole Miss Rebels, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Wallace played his high school football at Pike Road in Alabama and initially went to Penn State as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 36th-ranked wide receiver and the 239th-ranked player overall in that recruiting cycle.

In 2024, Wallace was a key figure on the Nittany Lions offense that went to the semifinal of the College Football Playoff, winning two Playoff games in the process. That was the deepest run that Penn State had in the Playoff era. However, Wallace was held without a catch in the Orange Bowl loss to Notre Dame amid struggles in the passing game in that loss.

For the 2024 season, Trey Wallace had 46 receptions for 720 yards and four touchdowns. That more than doubled his production in all previous seasons combined for the veteran wide receiver. His most productive individual game this season came against West Virginia to open the regular season. He snagged five receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns in that win.

In 2021, Wallace used a redshirt, giving him one more season of eligibility at the college level.

Now, as Wallace moves on to Ole Miss, his goal is going to be to get his new team to the College Football Playoff. That was a goal that Ole Miss fell just short of in 2024. However, there is an expectation in 2025 that Ole Miss is going to be competitive again and potentially make a deep run into the Playoff while competing for a championship.

In 2024, Ole Miss finished with the second-ranked passing offense in the country, averaging 350.8 yards per game. That compares to Penn State, who was 66th in the country in passing offense, averaging 227.9 yards per game. So, the expectations of the two offenses are likely going to be different for Wallace.

The transfer portal opened on Monday, December 9th, and ran through December 28th. The portal can also open for other reasons, like a change at head coach. On top of that, there will be another transfer window in the Spring, following practice then.

Ole Miss currently has the third-ranked transfer class in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That class includes 18 players who have left and 23 players who have joined the program. However, that number doesn’t yet include Trey Wallace.
