Jaxson Dart details the chaotic couple of weeks for Ole Miss after the Egg Bowl
Losing an in-state rivalry game can sting, especially when discussing the Egg Bowl. Ole Miss fell to Mississippi State on Thanksgiving, ending the season on a three-game losing streak. Things have been chaotic ever since
Thankfully for Ole Miss, they are now able to move on and focus on their next game. Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl is next up, taking place on Dec. 28. Preparations have begun with the game over two weeks, with quarterback Jaxson Dart calling it a nice reset for the program.
“It’s good to just have some time to reset on some things,” Dart said. “Kind of just regroup everyone back together.”
Even before the Egg Bowl, Ole Miss had a lot on its plate. Lane Kiffin was heavily linked with the Auburn job and was thought to be the program’s next head coach. He was viewed as the No. 1 target by athletic director John Cohen in what would have been a rare move inside the SEC.
Kiffin decided to stay in Oxford, signing a new contract with the Rebels. To much relief of the Ole Miss players, they can continue to build up the program with Kiffin running the show.
“Obviously, Coach signed another contract so he has been able to stay,” Dart said. “Think we’re all really excited about that.”

In between the Egg Bowl and Texas Tech, Dart had more than just football going on. Ole Miss was wrapping up its academic semester, with finals taking place recently. A quick pause from the gridiron was a welcomed break before getting back into the flow of practice.
“With finals and all that, it was really good to be able to focus on school,” Dart said. “But these last few days, getting back, it’s been a blast. There’s a ton of energy and guys flying around. So, it’s been really fun.”
Ole Miss will be preparing for a tough Texas Tech team, who had a good season in Year One of Joey McGuire. Highlights include beating both Texas and Oklahoma in the same season for the first time in program history. This will mark the second consecutive SEC opponent in a bowl, defeating Mississippi State a year ago.
Dart will be hoping to have a better result than their Egg Bowl rivals. Struggling at times over the three-game losing streak, the Rebels quarterback is hoping to end the season on a positive note.
