Robert Griffin III predicts Matt Corral to win the Heisman Trophy
After joining ESPN as an analyst, Robert Griffin III is already making big predictions. The 2011 Heisman Trophy Winner is predicting Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral to join him in the exclusive club.
“I’m going with the most fun to watch gunslinger in all of college football, Matt Corral,” stated Griffin III. “I think he’s going to fix his turnover in bunches issue, and he’s going to go out and lead Ole Miss to be a serious contender in the College Football Playoff.
“It’s not the safe pick, it’s not the trendy pick – but this guy’s exciting.”
Evidently, the former Baylor star believes Corral can take a leap forward in year two of Lane Kiffin’s tenure. Last season, the Ole Miss quarterback threw for 3,337 yards and 29 touchdowns.
As Griffin III mentions, Corral’s problem last season was interceptions. If the quarterback can correct his turnover issue, the sky’s the limit for Kiffin’s signal caller.
Matt Corral throw leaves Ole Miss practice in shock
While he gets some love from national analysts, Corral continues to tear it up at practice for the Rebels. Earlier this week, the team’s twitter account posted a video of their quarterback connecting with receiver Dannis Jackson for a picture-perfect touchdown at practice.
It’s a beautiful sight for Rebels fans everywhere. Additionally, Corral has the potential to become must-see television if he can make throws like that on the regular.

Corral’s Potential Heisman Resume
By virtue of his gaudy stats alone, Corral may work his way into the conversation. However, his Heisman resume can be beefed up by shocking victories over teams like the Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers.
Against Alabama in 2020, Corral had one of his best games of the season. The Ole Miss quarterback threw for 365 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Rebels drop 48 on the Crimson Tide.
On the other hand, it wasn’t as pretty for Corral against LSU. While he passed for 251 yards and three touchdowns, he also was intercepted five times. The Rebels fell, the score 53-48 in favor of the Tigers.
Nothing helps a Heisman resume quite like a couple upset victories. If Corral can lead the Rebels to a successful season while padding his stats, Griffin III’s prediction could ring true.
