Ole Miss star Tim Elko shared his farewell message to the Rebels program and fans with a video shared on his social media account. Elko’s final season with Ole Miss ended in storybook fashion as they won their first College World Series in school history, capping a fantastic career for the first baseman.

Tim Elko’s farewell video to Ole Miss

Elko’s farewell began with footage from an interview he did back in 2017 after choosing to come to Ole Miss. In the clip, the young Elko explains why he chose the Rebels as his school — citing a fan environment that would become one of his best memories over his career.

“I think probably — the fans. I think that’s one of the main reasons I chose Ole Miss. Everybody is so great to you all the time and it’s a really great place to live. And a great place to play with such a beautiful stadium and great fans and great environment.”

The video continued with a touching compilation of moments from their championship-winning season where Elko shined, mixed with clips of Elko praising his teammates and having a blast. The final thing Elko says in his farewell video was from his interview immediately after winning the title, and it summarizes perfectly how he felt about finishing his career with the Rebels.

“I am very happy I came back.”

Two seasons ago, Elko tore his ACL and his future at Ole Miss was in doubt — as he had to decide whether or not he would return for another season. Last year, the Rebels were in trouble after beginning the year with a 7-14 record in SEC play before beginning a miracle run to the national championship and winning it all.

Elko finished his career with a .294 batting average and 46 home runs, including the Ole Miss single-season record with 24 home runs last year. The title was the first in Ole Miss Baseball history, and the fifth total national title for the school across all sports.
