Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin confirmed postgame that receiver Tre Harris reaggravated a groin injury Saturday against Florida. Harris absorbed a big hit in the second quarter and missed the remainder of the contest.

It was the first game back for the senior WR after he missed the previously three games due to the injury. He finished the day with one catch that went 43 yards for a touchdown.

“Just a freak situation,” Kiffin said in his press conference. “He got hit on the same injury exactly right where it was and then dropped the ball because of it. Obviously the injury happened and then we missed the field goal too. So there were a lot of bad breaks today.”

Ole Miss and Florida were tied at 14 heading into halftime. However, the Rebels failed to score a touchdown the entire second half on their way to a 24-17 loss.

The loss eliminates the Rebels from College Football Playoff contention as they fall to 8-3 (4-3 SEC) on the season. With just one game remaining in the regular season, it remains unclear what Harris’ status is the the rest of the year.

Even despite his three-game absence, Harris still led the Rebels with 957 receiving yards to go with six touchdowns as Dart’s top target entering Saturday’s game. The 43-yard touchdown catch put him over 1,000 yards on the season.

Lane Kiffin spoke about what Harris’ return means for the Ole Miss offense, especially after a huge victory over Georgia.

“Tre’s been great,” Kiffin said on the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday. “Been awesome having him back out there. To be fully loaded, whole team and offense has been great. Great feeling to have that back. The nation’s toughest receiver in the country. So, it’s been great to have him back out there.”

Ole Miss closes out the regular season next Saturday in the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State.
