Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris is playing in his first game as a Rebel and has already placed his name with some of the greats to call the program home. In Ole Miss’ Week 1 season opener against Mercer, Harris just set a new program record for touchdown receptions in a single game with four in the game.

Harris is having a lights out performance for the Rebels in their home season opener. The former Louisiana Tech star has only caught six passes in the game, but four of them have been for touchdowns. Harris also has 133 yards receiving, averaging 22.2 yards per catch.

As a whole, Ole Miss has put on a clinic in their first game of the season. The Rebels have been able to put up 586 yards of total offense with 464 through the air. A Lane Kiffin led offense is expected to be explosive. However, it is arguably the Ole Miss defense that has been the most impressive in week 1. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Rebels’ defense has allowed just over 200 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers on the day, two fumbles, and one interception.

Harris is a believer in his ability.

You can tell when asked what style receiver he is.

“I consider myself a dominant receiver, a receiver who thrives on the one-on-one coverage and a smart player. I’m going to do my best every snap, blocking or receiving and try my best to be dominant,” he said recently. “I want to be one of those guys who’s considered a top receiver in the country.

“My goal is for us to beat the best teams in the country and for me to be a big part of that.”

Harris said there is also a big benefit at Ole Miss for all the coaches to be mental health certified.

“That’s huge. We are able to talk to our coaches. We don’t shy away from telling them the way we feel. They know that some days you are going to have off days, not every day is going to go your way, and it’s good to know someone is there to pick you up when that happens,” said Tre.

Harris is one of Ole Miss’ old heads. Naturally, then, he was asked about Ayden Williams. Williams is entering his true freshman Ole Miss season as one of the team’s top rookies. He’s a former top recruit in the 2023 class..

“He’s a dog, man. I’m not joking. He’s got that #1 jersey for a reason, man,” Tre stated. “He deserves it and he is going to show people why he’s wearing it and I can promise you in coming years he is going to that guy.”

Harris enjoys that the Rebel offense has more of a vertical passing game than the Air Raid offenses, similar to Malik Heath coming to Ole Miss from Mississippi State’s Air Raid from last season.
