Ole Miss linebacker Troy Brown injured during second quarter against LSU
Locked in a tight contest against LSU, a key Ole Miss player was shaken up when linebacker Troy Brown was injured late in the second quarter after making a stop on a short Tigers pass over the middle.
LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels dumped off a pass underneath to running back Josh Williams over the middle on first-and-10 near midfield with the offense running a two-minute drill. Brown came up to make the stop but appeared to hit his left shoulder hard as multiple players collided at the point of impact.
Brown immediately turned over holding that left shoulder and the game went to commercial break as he was tended to.
The Rebels were trying to keep the Tigers from scoring just before halftime at the time Troy Brown was injured. His absence would thin a back seven that has been tested by the quick tempo of the Tigers at times already on Saturday.
Ole Miss did manage to hold, forcing a punt to take a 20-17 lead into the break at halftime.
The CBS broadcast crew noted Brown appeared to have injured his shoulder but did not provide a formal update from sideline reporter Jenny Dell before the teams went to halftime.
LSU answers early Ole Miss onslaught well
Ole Miss didn’t take long to jump out in front in Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday, kicking a field goal on the first play of the second quarter to extend an early lead to 17-3.
But LSU responded nicely, quickly scoring touchdowns on back-to-back drives to tie the game at 17 again.

Both starting quarterbacks dueled fairly evenly in the first half, with both taking a number of hard hits in the competitive contest. Ole Miss starter Jaxson Dart was shaken up in the second quarter against LSU, tackled on a third-and-10 play by 315-pound Tigers defensive lineman Jaquelin Roy.
Dart scrambled up the middle on third-and-10, cutting inside to the left of a tackle attempt from safety Joe Foucha. But as Dart slipped inside Foucha, he was hit from behind by Roy, who came down straight on top of Dart with the football tucked under his chest.
The Ole Miss quarterback stayed down on the field for a minute or two before walking to the sideline. He’d remain in the game, though, finishing the first half 11-of-16 passing for 204 yards.
Daniels did his part to get the Tigers back into it after the Rebels’ hot start, finishing the first half 12-of-15 passing for 164 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 13 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown rushing.
LSU will receive the opening kickoff in the second half.
