Former Troy running back Damien Taylor has committed to Ole Miss, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

He’s coming off a career-best season this past fall as a junior, putting up 1,010 yards on 173 carries, good for 84.2 yards per game at 5.8 yards per carry, with seven of his touchdowns. That made him Troy’s leading rusher, with one of their program’s better all-time rushing seasons, last fall and earned him the honor on the All-Sun Belt Second Team

In all, Taylor has rushed for 1,386 yards on 248 carries, good for 38.5 yards per game and 5.6 per carry, while scoring nine touchdowns in his collegiate career there. He has also caught seven passes, two of those being for additional scores, for 28 yards receiving.

Before college, Taylor, a Northport, Alabama native, played his high school football at Tuscaloosa County. He was a three-star recruit there during the 2021 cycle. He also rated as a Top-125 RB in the class and a Top-75 prospect out of the state. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He then committed to Troy amidst other mid-major interest, including other programs in the Sun Belt.

Taylor originally entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 14. Less than a week later, he’s a Rebel and set to play out of Lane Kiffin’s backfield for his final season of eligibility.

Maryland transfer OT Terez Davis commits to Ole Miss

It’s been an weekend weekend for the Ole Miss football team. On top of Taylor’s commitment, former Maryland offensive tackle Terez Davis has committed to Ole Miss out of the NCAA transfer portal on Saturday. He was the second transfer commit that the Rebels landed early on Saturday. Former South Alabama defensive back Ricky Fletcher committed to head coach Lane Kiffin and the Rebels as well.

Before college, Davis was a three-star recruit according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 1,383 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class. Davis was also the No. 98 player in his position.

For Fletcher, he has accumulated 38 total tackles for the Jaguars over the past two seasons. Additionally, he amassed 11 passes defensed during the 2024 season — an impressive number.
