UAB offensive lineman Delano Townsend commits to transfer to Ole Miss
UAB Blazers offensive lineman Delano Townsend has committed to transfer to the Ole Miss Rebels, On3 has learned.
Townsend has spent the last two seasons with the Blazers, taking a redshirt during his first season at UAB. Then, 2024 became more of a breakout season for the Townsend, starting in 11 games for UAB. He appeared in all 12 games.
Coming out of high school at Hamady in Michigan, Townsend was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 208th-ranked interior offensive lineman and the 2,329th-ranked player in that recruiting cycle.
It was a difficult season for UAB in 2024. The Blazers went just 3-9 overall and 2-6 in AAC play. That included a six-game losing streak at one point in head coach Trent Dilfer‘s second season with the program.
The UAB offensive line was a part of a Blazers offense that struggled at times, finishing 94th in rushing offense while only gaining 130.92 yards per game on the ground. They were also 104th in sacks allowed, giving up 2.67 sacks per game.

Now, Townsend is joining an Ole Miss team that is coming off a 9-3 season and ended the year just shy of making it to the College Football Playoff under head coach Lane Kiffin.
Kiffin has been an aggressive coach in the portal. That has continued during the 2024 transfer cycle. Ole Miss currently has the second-ranked transfer class in the 2025 transfer cycle, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That’s a class that has seen 11 players officially enter the Transfer Portal and 10 who have signed with the Rebels. However, that doesn’t yet include Delano Townsend.
From here, Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin are expected to continue to be aggressive in adding players from the Transfer Portal this year.
