Washington State transfer defensive back Kapena Gushiken commits to Ole Miss

Washington State Cougars transfer defensive back Kapena Gushiken is taking his talents to Oxford, committing to join Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss via the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned.

Over the past two seasons, Gushiken has amassed 88 total tackles, 11 PBUs, three interceptions and one forced fumble for the Cougars. He’ll be hoping to bring the ruckus to the Rebels.

Moreover, Gushiken played high school football at Mission Viejo (PUKALANI, HI), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 195 overall recruit in his class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

As for his spot in the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, Gushiken came in at No. 38 among cornerbacks, and No. 345 overall. He’ll be hoping to ascend now that he’s heading to the SEC and Ole Miss.

In other Ole Miss related news, former Louisville quarterback Pierce Clarkson signed with Rebels out of the NCAA transfer portal as well, On3 has learned.

Clarkson redshirted during his true freshman season. He has multiple years of eligibility remaining. Clarkson is the son of renown quarterbacks coach Steve Clarkson.

In two seasons at Louisville, Clarkson appeared in three games. He completed 4-of-6 passes for 18 yards. He also carried five times for nine yards.

As a member of the Class of 2023, Clarkson was a four-star recruit out of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 31 overall prospect in the state, the No. 26 quarterback in the class and the No. 395 overall prospect in the class.
