Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin had a hilarious response to a question during a sideline interview pregame against Tennessee. After Kiffin entered Knoxville to a parade of boos, he was asked how he stays calm in such a hostile environment.

“Matt Corral,” he quipped with a smile. “I got you on that one. You thought I was gonna say popcorn.”

Corral certainly does add an extra layer of comfort for his coach as one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He has 20 total touchdowns and has not thrown an interception through five games.

The No. 13 Rebels enter the game at 4-1 with their only loss of the season coming against Alabama. Their offense combined with the Volunteers, led by first-year coach Josh Heupel resulted in an over/under that surpassed 80 points ahead of the game.

Ole Miss got off to a hot start with an early touchdown to go up 7-0. However, Corral was sacked for a safety later in the quarter and then Tennessee scored a touchdown to go up 9-7. The Rebels later regained the lead on a field goal and currently have a 24-9 advantage with 5:24 left in the second quarter.

Kiffin is in his second season leading the Rebels after a 5-5 record in his inaugural season. Expectations were high with Corral, the SEC’s leading returning passer, back. But no one could have anticipated the start Ole Miss got off to.

They remain a huge threat in the SEC thanks to their explosive offense and have a good chance to make a New Year’s Six Bowl if they keep it up.

Tennessee has also exceeded expectations to this point in Heupel’s first season. The Volunteers are 4-2 and 2-1 in conference play entering Saturday’s game against the Rebels. With his team playing so well, perhaps we will get even more jokes from Lane Kiffin in his halftime sideline interview.
