WATCH: Lane Kiffin pokes fun at Michael Wilbon using Paul Finebaum
On Tuesday, PTI personality Michael Wilbon ripped Lane Kiffin to pieces. It was during a toss up session on the show about which team would be the better winner for college football this weekend, Alabama or Ole Miss. Tony Kornheiser said Ole Miss would be the better winner. That’s when Wilbon jumped in with his rant on Kiffin. Not surprisingly, Kiffin saw the rant and got asked about it by multiple media personalities, including SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum.
Here’s the video of what he thought about the rant from Wilbon.
Here’s the transcribed version of Kiffin’s response on Finebaum’s show.
“I just thought it was unusual. You know, normally those type of things are said about you by some fan chatting about it, not a professional media member. So, I thought it was a little bit different and had some fun with it. Especially when it’s coming from someone that never met you, who doesn’t know you at all. So, whatever. It is what it is.”
Later in the interview when Finebaum asked Kiffin about his initial reaction when he saw the rant. He said, “I did see it yesterday. I thought, ‘God, that guy Finebaumed me!’
He sounded upset
Even though Kiffin tried to act like the rant didn’t bother him in the Finebaum interview, his reaction lets you know he was clearly bothered by it. His tweets let you know he wasn’t happy, either. Like the one below.
That being said, Finebaum’s point in the interview was a fair one. Plenty of people in the media likely said those types of things several years ago, but not now, where Kiffin seems to have matured.
Not only has he matured with how he’s dealt with things in the media, but he’s grown as a football coach over the years into one of the top offensive coordinators in America.
Simply put, Kiffin doesn’t get hired by Alabama head coach Nick Saban if he’s a bad coach.

Saban thought Kiffin was a good enough play-caller to hand him the keys to the Alabama offense. That’s one of the strongest endorsements of Kiffin as a play-caller anyone can find.
Lane Kiffin and Matt Corral
Kiffin has unlocked the greatness in Matt Corral’s right arm. Not only has Corral been great, but he’s also one of the leading contenders for the Heisman Trophy.
In just three games, the surgically accurate signal-caller has completed over 68 percent of his passes for nearly 1,000 passing yards, while tossing in nine touchdowns and no interceptions. Kiffin and Corral have the Ole Miss offense humming like a well-oiled machine.
Rants aside, the Alabama-Ole Miss matchup this weekend is going to be a great matchup. Kickoff is this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EST in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
